A 24-hour clock uses hours 00 through 23. For a.m., keep hours 1-11 but change 12 to 00. For p.m., add 12 to hours 1-11 but keep 12. Keep both minute digits. We write noon as 12:00 and midnight at the start of a named date as 00:00. These examples use one time zone with no clock changes.

Worked example

6:40 p.m. is 18:40 because 6 + 12 = 18. Going back, 18 - 12 = 6, so 18:40 is 6:40 p.m. Monday 23:55 to Tuesday 00:05 is ten minutes, not a whole day.

Given time labels: A, 9:05 p.m.; B, 16:35; C, 12:40 a.m.; D, 12:40 p.m.
These are the given times. Write a different name for the same time.
