Make it yours

Begin with a want

Give your character something to want. A wish, a worry, or a question can start the adventure.

Let a choice matter

Put something in the way. What does your character try? Let that choice change what happens next.

Find one stronger detail

Instead of "The room was strange," try a detail: "Every clock ticked backward." What could your reader see, hear, or feel?

Choose your stretch

A few connected sentences are a good start. For a bigger challenge, try dialogue, a second viewpoint, or an ending that changes the meaning of the beginning.

Today's goal: an original story connected to the theme, with a beginning, a change, and a revised detail. Completion is not an automatic grade.
