Weathering breaks down or alters material in place. Erosion removes and transports it. Deposition occurs when transported sediment settles. These processes can happen in sequence, but they are not the same action.
Worked example
Water freezing in a crack can help break rock apart: weathering. A stream carrying the pieces is erosion and transport. Pieces settling in a calmer area are deposition.
