Learn the skill
The distance from 0 to 1 is one whole. Keep that distance fixed. The denominator names equal intervals per whole; the numerator counts intervals traveled from zero. Count gaps, not ticks. Passing 1 does not restart the count. Use one shared unit length when comparing positions.
Worked example
On the diagram, each whole has three equal intervals. Two steps reach 2/3; four steps reach 4/3 = 1 + 1/3. Zero steps would stay at 0. These are worked examples; solve the fresh amounts below.
