Start with clean running water and soap. Rub the soapy hands, rinse, and dry. An adult can help with the tap, the scrub time, or reaching supplies. This is practice, not a test of your body.

Worked example

Our picture shows five steps. Drying comes after rinsing, not before. Point to each step and say what the pretend character does next.

Wet with clean running water, lather with soap, scrub for at least 20 seconds, rinse, then dry with a clean towel or air dryer. Ask an adult for help when needed.

Handwashing water does not have to be hot. Clean running water can be warm or cold; soap, rubbing, rinsing and drying are important parts of the routine.
