Learn the skill

For a periodic wave, speed equals frequency times wavelength. Match units so Hz means cycles/s and wavelength is meters per cycle. In a fixed medium, changing frequency can change wavelength while speed stays similar.

Worked example

A wave with frequency 5 Hz and wavelength 2 m has speed 10 m/s.

A schematic repeating wave shows 3 complete cycles about a center line. v = f x wavelength. No physical length or time scale is assigned to this drawing.
