In this model, copying adds a separate file and leaves the source. Moving changes location without leaving a source copy. Renaming changes the name, not the content. Different apps may synchronize changes, so read what an action actually does.

Worked example

Copy draft.txt from Work to Archive: both folders now contain a file. Edit only the independent Archive copy and the Work file stays unchanged.

An Independent-Copy Model

Start with one four-line draft.txt in Work and an empty Archive. There is no synchronization or autosave in this model. First copy the draft to Archive. Next add two lines only to the Archive copy and save it. Finally move the Work original into a third folder, Done. Do not carry out these actions on real schoolwork.
