Gravity pulls falling paper down. Air resistance acts against its motion through air. In still air, crumpling a sheet usually makes it fall faster by changing its shape and resistance, not by adding mass.

Worked example

Drop one sheet from a low height with adult help, then crumple that same sheet and repeat. Keep the height and release method the same. Never climb to make a drop.

A flat paper sheet and the same paper crumpled are shown in still air. Downward gravity and upward air resistance act on falling paper.
