Birds and mammals are endotherms, often called warm-blooded. Familiar reptiles such as lizards and turtles, amphibians, and most fish are ectotherms, often called cold-blooded. Use the animal's group, not whether its home is warm or cold.

Worked example

A dolphin lives in water but is a mammal, so it is warm-blooded. A goldfish also lives in water but is an ectotherm. Living in water does not decide the group.
