A calm statement ends with a period. A direct question ends with a question mark. An exclamation mark can show a strong feeling or an urgent warning. Read what the speaker means before choosing an ending.

Worked example

'Where is the bag?' asks a question. 'The bag is here.' tells something. 'Watch out!' gives an urgent warning.
