A tangent line uses the derivative as slope and passes through the point on the curve. In y = mx + b, solve b = y0 - m x0.

Worked example

For y = x^2 at x = 2, the point is (2, 4) and slope is 4. Thus b = 4 - 8 = -4.

For y = x^2 at x = 2, the point is (2, 4) and slope is 4. Thus b = 4 - 8 = -4.
Worked model: For y = x^2 at x = 2, the point is (2, 4) and slope is 4. Thus b = 4 - 8 = -4.
