Read each printed value and add it once. Group equal values to count by fives or tens. A circle labeled 25c means 25 cents. These classroom circles do not show the appearance of real coins. In this model, 100 cents equals one dollar.

Worked example

One 10c piece, one 5c piece and one 1c piece total 10 + 5 + 1 = 16 cents. There are three pieces, but their value is not three cents.
