Rules and a planning tip
  • Use all 52 cards, without jokers. Seven columns begin with one to seven cards; only each column's top card is face up.
  • Foundations grow ace, 2, 3, through king, keeping each suit together.
  • Columns descend by one rank and alternate red and black. A visible, correctly ordered run may move together, or a trailing part of it may move.
  • Only a king or a run beginning with a king can fill an empty column. An exposed face-down card turns up automatically.
  • Draw one card onto the waste. Only its top card can move. Once the stock is empty, turn the waste over without shuffling; there is no pass limit.
  • In this practice variant, a foundation's top card may return to a column. Aces are not forced onto foundations.
  • All 52 cards on foundations wins. A random deal is not guaranteed to be winnable. Stopping an unfinished deal is not a failing grade.

Plan ahead: Compare moves that expose hidden cards. Before filling an empty column, consider which king opens more choices. A hint shows a legal move, not a proven route to victory.

Undo and hints are practice aids. This Draw-One variant differs from the draw-three game in the Bicycle Klondike reference.

    Fun fact: The starting columns use 1 + 2 + 3 + 4 + 5 + 6 + 7 = 28 cards. That leaves 24 of the 52 cards in the stock.
