Narrative order can differ from chronological order. A flashback presents an earlier event after a later scene. Use the supplied dates to reconstruct event chronology, then compare it with the order of presentation. These fictional dates share the same calendar system.

Worked example

A story opens in 2020, flashes back to 2010, then returns to 2020. The 2010 event still happened earlier.

Event order reads 2010 then 2020, while telling order reads 2020, flashback to 2010, return to 2020. The earlier event stays earlier despite appearing later in narration.
