A color name tells us its color family. A shade can look lighter or darker. Shape and color are different features: a blue circle and blue square have different shapes but share a color name. Read the labels too, especially on a black-and-white print.
Worked example
Cards A and B are both blue circles. A is labeled light blue and B is labeled dark blue. They share a shape and color family but differ in how light or dark they look.
Make a Color Pair
Our cards are A: light blue circle; B: dark blue circle; C: yellow square. On paper, draw two matching shapes. Color one lightly and one more darkly with the same pencil, or use light and dark pencil shading. Add the words light and dark. Your picture is practice, not an upload or a graded color-vision test.
