In this paper layout model, a required inset margin is measured inward from each trim edge. Usable width equals trim width minus the left and right inset. Actual printers have their own specifications; this exercise is not a universal production rule.
Worked example
A 160 mm trimmed page with 8 mm inset on each side has 144 mm of safe width.
Make It Your Own
Optional theme: a place that changes overnight. Sketch a page with separate trim and safe-area outlines. Use stated model measurements and place important text inside the safe area. Label any background intended to extend beyond trim. You may draw, write or tell your idea. Use invented characters and places; no personal information or upload is needed. This activity is not scored.
Reflect on your choices
- Keep trim, safe inset and optional bleed conceptually separate.
- Explain one intentional choice and one possible alternative.
- There is no required style or single correct creative response.
