A storyboard can attach a duration to each planned shot. Add shot durations to estimate the sequence length when shots play one after another without overlap. Timing can change during editing; this is an explicit planning model.

Worked example

Shots lasting 3, 5 and 4 seconds form a 12-second sequential plan.

Three storyboard panels show Door opens for three seconds, Clue noticed for five, and Choice made for four. Played sequentially without overlap, the planned total is twelve seconds.
