Value means lightness or darkness, not the cost or quality of an artwork. In this labeled model 0 is darkest and 10 lightest. Compare the numbers on this model; it is not a calibrated measurement of every real material.

Worked example

Between labeled values 2, 5 and 8, value 2 is darkest and 8 lightest.
